Dr. Nguyen (Lac Ha) obtained his Ph.D. at Ho Chi Minh City University of Technology, a member of Vietnam National University at Ho Chi Minh under supervision of Prof. Nam T. S. Phan. Lac Ha’s Ph.D. research focused on using reticular design to synthesize titanium metal–organic frameworks (Ti-MOFs) for photocatalytic polymerization reactions.
Lac Ha spent a short period of time (9 months) working at King Fahd University of Petroleum and Minerals (Saudi Arabia) as a research consultant. Subsequently, he came to the US in late 2018, joining the group of Prof. Omar Yaghi at the University of California Berkeley (UC Berkeley) as a postdoctoral researcher. At UC Berkeley, Lac Ha studied chemistry and water harvesting application of covalent organic frameworks.
In 2024, Lac Ha went to the University of Chicago and worked with Prof. Laura Gagliardi and Prof. John Anderson as a joint postdoctoral researcher. At UChicago, Lac Ha focused his research on diversifying the chemistry of framework structures based on main-group elements. Lac Ha has started his independent career as an assistant professor at Tennessee Technological University in Fall 2025.
