Mary Patterson Computer Science Scholarship
The Mary Patterson Computer Science Scholarship provides financial aid to underrepresented groups in an attempt to recruit and improve retention of these diverse students in Computer Science.
History: Mary Patterson established four endowments, including the Mary Patterson Computer Science Scholarship, for the purpose of recruiting and retaining students in the College of Engineering. Mary is quoted as saying “I want to do everything I can to encourage young people, because they are our future. I tell everyone that the one thing they can’t take away from you is your education.”
Eligibility: To be eligible for this scholarship, students must meet the following criteria:
- Must be a current or prospective female, African-American or Native American student in good standing in accordance with current institutional policies;
- Must be a full-time student enrolled in a curriculum leading to the Bachelor of Science degree in computer science;
- Must have, and continue to maintain a minimum cumulative GPA of 3.00;
- Must demonstrate a commitment to the field of computer science and show promise of being successful, as subjectively determined by the Department of Computer Science faculty.
- Financial need may be considered.
