The Nine Steps to the Ten Ring

THE NINE STEPS TO THE TEN RING

1. STAND Feet are shoulder width apart. Toes are touching an imaginary line to the target. Knees are relaxed, not locked backwards.

2. NOCK Index feather is away from the side off the bow. Nock of arrow is placed on nocking point of string and arrow on the arrow rest

3. EXTEND String is in the first joint of the fingers; one finger is above the arrow and two below. Bow arm is extended at shoulder level, elbow joint is turned downward away from path of bow string; shoulders are level.

4. DRAW Muscles of the arm, shoulder and back should be used in sequence during the draw. Right elbow moves in a line parallel to the ground. String moves in a line close to bow arm during draw.

5. ANCHOR bow string touches center of nose and chin. Index finger touches under the center of the chin.

6. TIGHTEN/HOLD Muscles between shoulder blades are tightened. Drawing arm is parallel to the floor. Elbow and shoulder of bow arm are still in proper position.

7. AIM The arrow is super imposed over the center of the target. String is positioned on the center line of the bow.

8. RELEASE Back muscles are tightened as the string fingers relax. Relaxed drawing hand will move backward along the neck.

9. FOLLOW TROUGH Drawing hand rests beside neck with fingers relaxed. Bow arm stays extended toward the target until the arrow his the target.
