Imaging the total solar eclipse of April 8th, 2024

During the spring semester of 2024, Steve Robinson and Mary Kidd (faculty in the Physics Department at Tennessee Tech) taught a special topics class on imaging a solar eclipse for four students, Evelyn Brachey, Mackenzie Henley, Lily Ledford, and Aaron Livesay,

On April 8th they all travelled to Bloomington, IN, in the path of totality, to set up their equipment and record various aspects of the eclipse. Despite the fact that this was the second eclipse for most of the crew, everyone’s reaction to entering totality is still one of amazement. The student projects focused particularly on Baily’s Beads, solar prominences, and the solar corona, but more phenomena were also recorded.
