{"id":30,"date":"2014-07-02T18:40:57","date_gmt":"2014-07-02T23:40:57","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/blogs.cae.tntech.edu\/santon\/?page_id=30"},"modified":"2014-07-02T18:40:57","modified_gmt":"2014-07-02T23:40:57","slug":"facilities","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/sites.tntech.edu\/dssl\/facilities\/","title":{"rendered":"Facilities"},"content":{"rendered":"<h1><strong>Laboratory<\/strong><\/h1>\n<p>The Dynamic and Smart Systems Laboratory is housed in Brown Hall, home of the Mechanical Engineering Department at Tennessee Tech University. \u00a0The laboratory is located in Room 117 and occupies 750 square feet of laboratory space.<\/p>\n<h3><strong>\u00a0Location:<\/strong><\/h3>\n<div style=\"float: left;width: 350px;height: 300px;border: none;padding: 0px 10px 0px 10px;margin: 5px\">\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px\"><img decoding=\"async\" class=\" wp-image-191 size-medium alignleft\" src=\"http:\/\/sites.tntech.edu\/santon\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/115\/2016\/04\/brown-hall_resized.png\" alt=\"Brown Hall\" width=\"300\" \/><\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px\">Brown Hall Room 117<br \/>\n115 W. 10th St.<br \/>\nTennessee Tech University<br \/>\nCookeville, TN 38505<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div style=\"float: left;width: 500px;height: 270px;border: none;padding: 40px 0px 0px 0px;margin: 5px\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\" size-full wp-image-170 alignleft\" src=\"http:\/\/sites.tntech.edu\/santon\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/115\/2015\/01\/campus_map.png\" alt=\"test\" width=\"462\" height=\"228\" \/><\/div>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h1><strong>Equipment<\/strong><\/h1>\n<p>A variety of test and measurement equipment is available in the laboratory. \u00a0A representative list of major equipment is given here.<\/p>\n<h3><strong>Polytec OFV-505\/5000 Laser Doppler Vibrometer<\/strong><\/h3>\n<p>The Polytec vibrometer and controller with displacement decoder enable high accuracy\u00a0non-contact vibration measurements over a broad frequency range. \u00a0The system allows for velocity measurements with a resolution of 0.02 \u00b5m\/s and displacement measurements with a resolution of 0.15 pm and operates in a frequency range of 0 \u2013 2.5 MHz.<\/p>\n<h3><strong>Electrodynamic Shaker Systems<\/strong><\/h3>\n<ul>\n<li>\n<h4><span style=\"line-height: 12px\">Labworks LW140.141-110D6 Electrodynamic Shaker System<\/span><\/h4>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px\">The Labworks system consists of an ET-140 electrodynamic shaker with 110 lbf capacity and 1.0\u201d pk-pk stroke, a PA-141 linear power amplifier, and a DB-140 \u201cDuoBase\u201d slip table with 6\u201d x 6\u201d work surface. \u00a0The shaker system allows for full dynamic characterization of structures\u00a0in the range of DC-6,500 Hz. \u00a0The shaker can be operated in a standalone configuration or installed in the DuoBase slip table for transverse excitation of test specimens.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>\n<h4><span style=\"line-height: 12px\">Labworks ET139.138-40 Electromagnetic Shaker System<\/span><\/h4>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px\">The Labworks system consists of an ET-139 permanent magnet\u00a0shaker with 40 lbf capacity and\u00a01.0\u201d pk-pk stroke, and a PA-138 linear power amplifier. \u00a0This shaker system also allows for dynamic characterization in the range of DC-6,500 Hz.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>\n<h4>MB Dynamics C10E Electrodynamic Shaker System<\/h4>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px\">The MB Dynamics system consists of a C10E electrodynamic shaker with 1200\u00a0lbf capacity and 1.0\u201d pk-pk stroke, and an LDS DPA-K series switching power amplifier. \u00a0This shaker is capable of testing large, heavy payloads in the range of 5-3,000 Hz.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>\n<h4>LING Electronics\u00a0LMT-100 Modal Shaker System<\/h4>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px\">The LING\u00a0Electronics system consists of a LMT-100\u00a0electrodynamic shaker with 100\u00a0lbf capacity and 1.0\u201d pk-pk stroke, and a STAR-1.0\u00a0switching power amplifier. \u00a0This shaker is designed for modal testing of large structures and has a unique variable orifice collet-type attachment of the stinger to the test structure. \u00a0It is capable of modal excitation in the range of DC-2,000 Hz. \u00a0A 3&#8243; armature assembly is also available to allow for a standard shaker configuration.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>\n<h4>LDS V203 Electromagnetic\u00a0Shaker<\/h4>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px\">The LDS V203 shaker is a miniature permanent magnet shaker\u00a0with 4 lbf capacity, 0.2\u201d pk-pk stroke, and a useful frequency range of\u00a05-13,000 Hz.<\/p>\n<h3><strong>LDS LASER USB Shaker Controller<\/strong><\/h3>\n<p>The LASER shaker controller provides full capability control for random, swept-sine, resonance dwell, classical shock, random- and sine-on-random, shock SRS, and field data replication. \u00a0It can be used with any of the above shakers to allow for precision vibration control for demanding applications.<\/p>\n<h3><strong>National Instruments High Speed PXI Data Acquisition System<\/strong><\/h3>\n<p>This system consists of a PXIe-1082 8-slot PXI express chassis with a PXIe-8840 quad-core LabVIEW Real-Time controller; a PXIe-7975R FlexRIO FPGA Module paired with a NI 5782 IF Transceiver Adapter Module that allows 2 channels of analog input at speeds up to 250 MHz, two channels of analog output at speeds up to 1 GB\/s, and data throughput rates up to 1.7 GB\/s; and a PXIe-5122 2-ch, 100MS\/s Digitizer card.<\/p>\n<h3><strong>Dynamic Signal Analyzers and Data Acquisition Systems<\/strong><\/h3>\n<ul>\n<li>\n<h4>Br\u00fcel and Kj\u00e6r LAN-XI PULSE Dynamic Signal Analyzer<\/h4>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px\">This system consists of a Br\u00fcel and Kj\u00e6r Type 3160-A-042 LAN-XI module with six channels (four inputs, two outputs) capable of measurements up to 50 kHz and the PULSE LabShop and PULSE Reflex software suites. \u00a0The system allows for a host of vibration and acoustic measurements including Fast Fourier Transform (FFT), Constant Percentage Bandwidth (CPB), Order analysis, and time capture analysis.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>\n<h4>Br\u00fcel and Kj\u00e6r IDAe\u00a0PULSE Dynamic Signal Analyzer<\/h4>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px\">This system consists of a Br\u00fcel and Kj\u00e6r Type 7539 Controller Module (5 inputs, 1 output) and a Type 3035 6-channel input module capable of measurements up to 25.6 kHz and the PULSE LabShop and PULSE Reflex software suites. \u00a0The system also allows for a host of vibration and acoustic measurements.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>\n<h4>National Instruments CompactDAQ Data Acquisition System<\/h4>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px\">This expandable data acquisition system includes an 8-slot CompactDAQ chassis and various modules including an NI 9234 4-channel IEPE dynamic signal acquisition module that can sample up to 51.2 kHz, an NI 9215 4-channel, \u00b110 V analog input card, an NI 9221 8-channel, \u00b160 V analog input card, and an\u00a0NI 9263 4-channel, \u00b110 V analog output\u00a0module. \u00a0This data acquisition system can be configured using National Instruments LabVIEW software to perform custom data acquisition tasks and data streaming to disk.<\/p>\n<h3><strong>Optical Vibration Isolation Table<\/strong><\/h3>\n<p>A TMC Vibration Control 63E-533 vibration isolation table can be\u00a0used as the work surface for dynamic measurements. The 30&#8243; x 36&#8243; isolation table contains pneumatically actuated isolation legs for vibration isolation as well as stabilization and auto-leveling. Up to 97% isolation can be achieved at 10 Hz.<\/p>\n<h3><strong>Vibration and Acoustics Sensors<\/strong><\/h3>\n<p>DSSL has a wide variety of general purpose vibration and acoustic sensors including ~50 accelerometers (ranging from teardrop accels to seismic accels), ~10 force transducers\/impedance heads, and ~15 microphones. Several modal impact hammers are also available ranging from 50lbf pencil-style to 5000lbf sledge hammer-style.
