{"id":119,"date":"2020-07-15T20:29:26","date_gmt":"2020-07-15T20:29:26","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/aprilcrockett.fun\/?p=119"},"modified":"2020-07-15T20:29:26","modified_gmt":"2020-07-15T20:29:26","slug":"mary-patterson-computer-science-scholarship","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/sites.tntech.edu\/csc-diversity\/2020\/07\/15\/mary-patterson-computer-science-scholarship\/","title":{"rendered":"Mary Patterson Computer Science Scholarship"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The Mary Patterson Computer Science Scholarship provides financial aid to underrepresented groups in an attempt to recruit and improve retention of these diverse students in Computer Science.  <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>History:<\/strong> Mary Patterson established four endowments, including the Mary Patterson Computer Science Scholarship, for the purpose of recruiting and retaining students in the College of Engineering.  Mary is quoted as saying &#8220;I want to do everything I can to encourage young people, because they are our future.  I tell everyone that the one thing they can\u2019t take away from you is your education.&#8221;  <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Eligibility:<\/strong>  To be eligible for this scholarship, students must meet the following criteria:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>Must be a current or prospective female, African-American or Native American student in good standing in accordance with current institutional policies;<\/li><li>Must be a full-time student enrolled in a curriculum leading to the Bachelor of Science degree in computer science;<\/li><li>Must have, and continue to maintain a minimum cumulative GPA of 3.00;<\/li><li>Must demonstrate a commitment to the field of computer science and show promise of being successful, as subjectively determined by the Department of Computer Science faculty.<\/li><li>Financial need may be considered.&nbsp;<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The Mary Patterson Computer Science Scholarship provides financial aid to underrepresented groups in an attempt to recruit and improve retention of these diverse students in Computer Science.
