The CyberCorps\nSFSCon is a cybersecurity training and professional development event for the\nCyberCorps Scholarship for Service (SFS) students and alumni nationwide.&nbsp; The event focuses on topics such as software\nsecurity, malware analysis, network security, web security, cryptography,\nincident response, forensics, and the fundamentals of penetration testing.&nbsp; The conference is hosted by Cal Poly Pomona.&nbsp; The Capture the Flag competition is one of\nthe most engaging parts of the event.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"663\" height=\"434\" src=\"https:\/\/sites.tntech.edu\/ceroc\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/100\/2019\/09\/SFSCon-2019-Scoreboard.png\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-53\" srcset=\"https:\/\/sites.tntech.edu\/ceroc\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/100\/2019\/09\/SFSCon-2019-Scoreboard.png 663w, https:\/\/sites.tntech.edu\/ceroc\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/100\/2019\/09\/SFSCon-2019-Scoreboard-300x196.png 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 663px) 100vw, 663px\" \/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>Tennessee Tech CyberCorps SFS students, operating\nunder the team name GuessWho, made a strong showing throughout the competition\nleading until the final minutes.&nbsp; Team\nGuessWho finished in second place with a score of 4513 just behind the\nUniversity of Nebraska at Omaha with a score of 4606.&nbsp; \u201cWe are very proud of our team\u2019s dominating performance\nwith what could only be called a photo finish.\u201d stated Eric Brown, CEROC\u2019s Assistant\nDirector.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cCompetitions like these,\nwhere our students\u2019 skills are being compared to the skills of their peers,\nclearly demonstrate the incredible talent embodied in these scholars.&nbsp; This outcome is the result of more than their\ndaily coursework efforts; it is the result of countless hours of crowdsourced learning\nled by the students themselves.&nbsp; These\nlearning opportunities train the students not only in technical areas but\nprovides a solid skill set in mentoring and teaching.&nbsp; These scholars represent our country\u2019s next\ngeneration of cyber defenders.&nbsp; We are\nvery proud of them\u201d noted Dr. Ambareen Siraj, CEROC\u2019s director. &nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"574\" height=\"431\" src=\"https:\/\/sites.tntech.edu\/ceroc\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/100\/2019\/09\/2019-SFSCon-Participants.png\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-54\" srcset=\"https:\/\/sites.tntech.edu\/ceroc\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/100\/2019\/09\/2019-SFSCon-Participants.png 574w, https:\/\/sites.tntech.edu\/ceroc\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/100\/2019\/09\/2019-SFSCon-Participants-300x225.png 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 574px) 100vw, 574px\" \/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>CEROC\u2019s defense, offense, and\nCTF teams remain active throughout the year.&nbsp;\nCurrently CEROC teams are participating in picoCTF, Collegiate\nPenetration Testing Competition (CPTC), National Cyber League, and other cyber competitions.&nbsp; Tennessee Tech will be serving as the Central\nRegion host for the 2019 CPTC held this October 11th-13th.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>CEROC:&nbsp; Cybersecurity Education, Research and\nOutreach Center at Tennessee Tech University, under the direction of Dr.\nAmbareen Siraj, is a center of excellence in the College of Engineering focused\non K-20 cybersecurity education programs; research in emerging cybersecurity\ntopics; and outreach programs to stakeholders in academia, government and\nindustry.&nbsp; CEROC is an NSA-accredited\nCenter of Academic Excellence in Cyber Defense Education (CAE-CDE), host of the\nfirst and largest CyberCorps SFS program in the State of Tennessee, and host of\nthe only DoD Cyber Scholarship program site in the state placing the center\namong the top tier of such centers in the nation.&nbsp; CEROC, via Dr. Siraj\u2019s work, is also the\nfounding group for the Women in Cybersecurity Conference, the largest\nconference of its type focusing on enhancing diversity within the cybersecurity\nworkforce.&nbsp;
