The Center for Construction and Building Information Modeling exists as a source to shape construction collaboration through the use of Building Information Modeling. BIM is a rising tool employed in the construction industry, but as a resource there isn’t a vast amount of knowledge to share its use. Engineers, architects and MEPs (mechanical, electrical, and plumbing) traditionally collaborate party-to-party, which involves much communication and room for conflicting designs. BIM is a collaborative design tool that can be the solution but getting there isn’t easy.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

There needs to be an outside coordinator, a center, where all disciplines can work together to promote the use of BIM and grow its efficiency. CCBIM seeks to fill this need through the use of research, teaching and influencing public policy.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Research<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

CCBIM promotes research in areas such as program compatibility, structural design, and more. Undergraduate and graduate students at Tennessee Tech have the opportunity to help grow knowledge and view the widespread use of BIM hands-on, with the live construction of the Ashraf Islam Engineering Building right outside their window.<\/p>\n<\/div><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n

Teaching<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

One of CCBIM’s major focuses is spreading the knowledge and use of BIM. Researchers are working to create a BIM class for Tennessee Tech students, as well as provide specific classes for non-students interested in learning BIM, including professional development hours for working engineers.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n

Public Policy<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

CCBIM seeks to be an outside resource for companies and schools to collaborate and help guide the future of BIM and construction by creating codes, producing helpful guides and acting as a coordinator for all parties involved in BIM.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n\n\n
